Giant dried poppies
Giant dried poppies are flowers that add great beauty to both your home and any other place that you want to put them in. The thing is that your giant dried poppies give the impression of fresh blooms any time of the year. They are great for those unexpected dinner parties that come up. If you already have fresh poppies then you can speed up the process of drying your poppies using the microwave. If you are under age then you should have an adult or at least someone with experience when doing this. Pick the flowers that you want to dry by choosing the flowers that are the biggest, you should pick them before they are at their peak. Make sure that the flower is not wet from rain or morning mist. If the flower is dried the better the results are. There are two methods to get great dried poppies. The first method involves using paper towels. The flower is spread out on paper towels, use several sheets of paper and arrange so that they are not touching each other, they should not be crowded. They are then placed in the microwave and the temperature should be set at low. It should be around 250 degrees. Basically the moisture of the plant is transferred to the paper towels. The paper towels should be changed as they grow damper.
The second method is to use silica gel. Silica gel is a dissecant, which means that it is a special gel used to dissect things. For this method you will need a microwave dish. Cover the bottom with the gel. The flowers are then placed in the dish and another layer of silica gel is placed over the flowers. Place the flowers so that the flowers are not crowded together. Microwave the flowers for about four minutes at 250 degrees. Do not cover the plate. The time will vary depending on your flower. Let the flower cool for about 30 minutes and then brush the gel away. Then you place them on a tray and bake for about 30 minutes at 250 degrees.
To get giant dried poppies you can also use the natural methods. For this method you have to tie about 8 poppies together. Place them on a can or jar, since the poppies dry better right side up. The poppies are then placed in an open area that has sun and big air circulation. You can use a garage or an attic. This method takes about three weeks. It does take longer but the poppies look much more natural. The thing is that the dry poppy doesn’t really loose its color once it has been dried. The color stays just as strong as if they were fresh.
