Grow Opium Poppies
Although there are all kinds of poppies, and pretty much all of them are quite nice to have, many people nowadays like to grow opium poppies. This can be a tricky thing to do, as this variety of poppy is illegal to be grown almost anywhere around the globe.
Perhaps not everyone who plans or is currently growing this poppy has got bad intentions. It is widely known that there are a lot of varieties that offer a large range of colors, which are very beautiful indeed, and that the dried pods are also popular among flower lovers But if you like dried pods, a better idea would be just to buy them, you can go to a flower store or order them through the internet; they even offer some opium poppy varieties that are impossible to find otherwise. Another advantage of ordering or buying pods, is that they are usually available all year round, remember that poppies life cycle is annual. Even though some people have completely harmless good intentions, they still can get in trouble.
Whoever that grows opium poppies, with a different purpose than making flower arrangements or making medicine, is in fact looking for one of two things –usually for both actually-: getting in trouble with the law or trying to make some good money. In the present time, opium itself is not as popular as it used to be about three or four centuries ago, or even longer than that, since morphine and heroin is obtain from opium poppies. With modern science, the same science that gives us safer and faster cars, instant access to any kind of information we want, and an endless list of conveniences; is also the same science and technology that has given us the atomic bomb, transgenic food and another endless list of terrible things,
It comes as no surprise that laws about planting these poppies are very strict; nevertheless; that does not stop people involved with drugs, as heroin production shows larger numbers every year. Illegal growing takes place in many third world countries, were poverty makes this illegal activity the most attractive option for farmers in such places; it is incredible to see the popularity that drug lords have among poor people, as they give them the economical opportunities that local governors don’t. This lack of attention from local authorities, who almost always are just as criminal as the drug lords and even sometimes have complicity with the drug world, makes this illegal trend a very difficult thing to stop.
This is pretty much the legacy this Middle East plant leaves us with, a gift from nature that thanks to human imprudent intelligence, becomes a killer for thousands, and perhaps millions of people.
